Applications are now being accepted for the 2025 Gender Just Climate Solutions Awards, hosted by WECF and the Women & Gender Constituency. The final day to submit entries is Sunday, July 13th, 2025, by 23:59 CEST. Please note that eligibility is restricted to projects or initiatives that have been in progress for at least one year.

These awards recognize projects that align with gender justice in climate solutions, divided into three distinct categories. Past award recipients offer valuable examples in these areas. The first category highlights gender-responsive technological innovations, such as renewable energy systems, water solutions, sustainable food production, digital platforms, and waste management. The second focuses on non-technological approaches that foster inclusive practices, knowledge exchange, community capacity building, and skill-sharing. The third category emphasizes initiatives aimed at broader transformations, including shifts in governance, social institutions, and the dismantling of patriarchal norms.

Submissions will be assessed on their contributions to advancing gender equity, resilience to climate challenges, and long-term sustainability. Initiatives that actively create equal access to resources and decision-making, reduce the burdens on women’s unpaid labor, empower women and gender-diverse individuals with opportunities for economic and social advancement, and advocate for democratic inclusion will be prioritized. Consideration will also be given to efforts that are community-driven, promote climate resilience, reduce emissions, adapt to climate-related risks, and foster self-sufficiency. Finally, projects with scalable results, and those that connect with broader issues such as peace, health, natural resource management, food security, and sanitation, will be highly regarded.

Selected initiatives will be evaluated by an international panel representing the Women and Gender Constituency. Three outstanding projects, one from each category, will receive a financial prize of 5000 Euros and an invitation for a delegate to attend the awards ceremony at COP30 in Belem, Brazil in November 2025 (subject to availability of UNFCCC quotas). These awardees will also be invited to a capacity-building workshop, joining a network of previous winners to share insights and expand their solutions. Additionally, up to twelve initiatives will be highlighted in the official Awards publication, which will be made accessible in four languages and presented at COP30.

Eligible applicants include grassroots organizations, activists, and groups advocating for climate justice, particularly those led by women and gender-diverse individuals from any part of the world. Initiatives must be nongovernmental and fall into one of the three categories mentioned above, with at least one year of proven impact.

The submission window opened on Tuesday, May 27th, and will close on Sunday, July 13th, at 23:59 CEST.
