The Global Fund for Children (GFC) is currently accepting applications for its Youth Leadership Council (YLC). This volunteer opportunity brings together young changemakers from around the world to collaborate, provide strategic input, and advocate for child and youth-focused solutions in partnership with GFC.
About the Global Fund for Children
Global Fund for Children is a nonprofit organization that works with grassroots partners to promote the rights and well-being of children and youth around the world. Since its founding in 1997, GFC has directed over $51 million to more than 900 community-based organizations, positively impacting more than 11 million children and young people.
Youth Leadership Council Overview
The Youth Leadership Council serves as a dynamic, global platform for youth to help shape GFC’s strategies and practices. Council members offer input on various aspects of the organization’s work, including programming, communications, equity initiatives, and more.
Primary Roles of the YLC Include:

Providing strategic feedback to help GFC decentralize power and foster youth-led action

Promoting mutual learning and growth between young leaders and GFC staff

Offering ideas and insights that inform and amplify GFC’s advocacy for children and youth
Position Details

This is a volunteer role, not a paid position. However, financial assistance is available to support participation, and members will receive recognition as agreed with GFC.

The standard term is two years, with flexibility to accommodate personal or professional schedules.

Members are expected to dedicate approximately 5 hours monthly to Council activities.
Expected Commitment

Council Meetings: Conducted every two months online (1.5 hours per session)

Strategic Engagements: Quarterly meetings with GFC leadership to advise on organizational direction

Involvement in Key Areas: Members contribute to specific areas within GFC’s operations, such as safeguarding, advocacy, or regional initiatives
Focus Areas for Member Engagement
Council members will collaborate in at least one area, selected based on personal interests:

Communications and Campaigns: Working with GFC’s marketing team on messaging and outreach

DEIA and Safeguarding: Supporting equity and safety in organizational practices

Local and Regional Advocacy: Connecting with regional partners to uplift youth-led efforts

Additional opportunities may arise throughout the term

Additional Information
The Council seeks young individuals aged 18 to 28 who:
Are actively involved in youth engagement, advocacy, or social justice work
Can confidently communicate in English
Have consistent access to the internet
Reside in, or have strong ties to, regions where GFC operates
Are enthusiastic about contributing to GFC’s global mission and vision
Applications are especially encouraged from:
Women and members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community
Individuals with disabilities
Those from rural areas, underrepresented groups, or the Global South
Non-university-educated youth or those with experience in the informal sector
Indigenous and racialized communities
