GRANTS: Apply for the ACT Foundation’s Changemakers Innovation Challenge 2026 for African changemakers

The 2025 ACT Foundation Changemakers Innovation Challenge is now accepting applications from young visionaries across Africa who are driving meaningful social transformation through the power of technology. This initiative was created to spotlight and support the remarkable efforts of grassroots organizations, emerging enterprises, and community-focused innovators that are leveraging digital tools to create lasting impact within their societies. Through this challenge, ACT Foundation aims to provide not only financial resources but also the technical backing needed to amplify these solutions and extend their reach to more communities.

Open to citizens and residents of any African country, the competition welcomes young leaders between the ages of 18 and 25 who have developed technology-powered ideas or projects that directly address pressing social issues in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Whether operating as individuals, running a nonprofit, or managing a social enterprise, applicants must demonstrate that their solutions have been tested with real beneficiaries and have produced measurable results. Submissions should be supported with proof such as photographs, videos, or media coverage. Previous recipients of the Changemakers Innovation Challenge are not eligible to apply.

The call for entries begins on 4 August 2025 and will close on 22 August 2025, with no exceptions for late submissions. All applications must be completed in English and can only be submitted once per organization. There is no cost to participate, and no purchase or payment is required. The top four winners will be awarded grants to scale their initiatives and will also have the opportunity to receive relevant technical assistance, which may include hardware, software, or capacity-building training. Finalists will present their solutions at a live pitch event on 8 October 2025, where the winners will be announced.

Applications will be reviewed based on several key qualities, including the originality and inventiveness of the idea, the depth of technology integration, the scale of the positive impact achieved, and the potential for long-term growth and sustainability. Judges will also consider the strength of the applicant’s vision and leadership. This challenge represents a unique opportunity for young African innovators to secure the resources, exposure, and support necessary to elevate their technology-driven solutions to a wider stage, ultimately enabling them to create deeper, more lasting change in their communities.
