PAID INTERNSHIP: Apply for the African Development Bank Group Internship program 2026 for young African professionals and changemakers
Applications are now open for the 2026 African Development Bank Group Internship Program. This program offers young professionals a unique opportunity to gain practical experience within one of Africa’s leading development institutions. It is designed to help participants strengthen their skills, understand the Bank’s mission, and contribute to advancing economic and social development across its Regional Member Countries.
Through this initiative, the African Development Bank Group aims to provide participants with exposure to an international and multicultural work environment while identifying and preparing a pool of potential future professionals for its operations. The program also serves to enhance awareness of the Bank’s role in promoting sustainable development on the continent.
In 2026, forty interns will be selected during Session 1 through a highly competitive process aligned with the Bank’s operational needs. Candidates must be no older than 30 years by 31 December 2025 and should either be enrolled in a master’s degree program at a recognized institution or applying within one year after completing a master’s degree. Applicants must hold at least a bachelor’s degree and provide proof of enrollment or completion. They must be citizens of one of the Bank’s member countries and demonstrate proficiency in English or French, with a working knowledge of the other language considered an advantage. Female applicants are especially encouraged to apply.
The selection process will favor candidates who show strong communication skills, adaptability to multicultural settings, and an understanding of a third language relevant to the Bank’s work. Experience in projects or activities that align with the Bank’s mission will be considered an added advantage.
The program welcomes applicants from a wide range of professional backgrounds, including power, energy, climate and green growth, agriculture, human and social development, private sector, infrastructure and industrialization, economics, statistics, governance, knowledge management, finance, law, human resources, IT, procurement, audit, anti-corruption, evaluation, communication, external relations, gender, environmental and social assessment, and financial software development.
Interns will receive a monthly stipend and medical insurance funded by the Bank during the internship period. However, they will be responsible for their own travel and living expenses in the case of on-site placements. The Bank will provide reasonable assistance for obtaining entry and residence visas when necessary. Each participant can only take part in the internship once, and in some cases, may be authorized to join official Bank missions.
Depending on the needs of the hiring departments, the internship may take place remotely or on-site at the Bank’s headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, or at one of its regional or country offices. This program represents a valuable opportunity for young professionals to develop their potential, gain international exposure, and play a part in Africa’s sustainable growth and development journey through the African Development Bank Group.
