Applications are open for the East African Girls and Young Feminist Fund 2026–2027, a dedicated regional funding opportunity designed to resource, strengthen, and amplify the work of girl-led and young feminist-led groups across Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania. This initiative recognises that girls and young feminists are at the forefront of social change within their communities and aims to provide them with flexible financial support to grow their ideas, sustain their organising, and advance gender justice and feminist movement building. Through this fund, selected groups will receive unrestricted grants, allowing them to respond directly to the real and urgent needs of their communities while building long-term sustainability for their organisations and advocacy efforts.

The fund is rooted in feminist values of inclusion, intersectionality, and grassroots leadership. Rather than imposing rigid project structures, it prioritises trust-based support that empowers groups to determine how best to use the funding — whether for programmes, campaigns, organisational development, or strengthening internal systems. By investing directly in local leadership, the fund seeks to help young feminist movements thrive and create meaningful, lasting impact across East Africa.

Selected groups will receive grant funding that is flexible and unrestricted, enabling them to allocate resources according to their most pressing priorities. This means funding can be used for a wide range of needs, including running programmes, supporting staff or volunteers, strengthening leadership, improving operations, covering administrative costs, or expanding advocacy and outreach efforts.

Because the fund values long-term impact rather than short-term interventions, grants may also be multi-year depending on available resources, giving organisations the stability needed to plan sustainably and deepen their work. This flexible approach helps reduce funding pressure and allows groups to focus on delivering meaningful change rather than meeting restrictive donor requirements.

Eligibility Criteria

This opportunity is specifically intended for girl-led or young feminist-led groups and collectives operating in Uganda, Kenya, or Tanzania. Eligible applicants include grassroots organisations, informal collectives, networks, or community-based groups that are actively engaged in feminist action and gender justice work. Groups should demonstrate that girls or young feminists hold leadership and decision-making roles and that their activities are grounded in advancing rights, equity, and social transformation for women and girls.

The fund particularly encourages applications from groups that are deeply embedded in their local communities and are responding to issues such as discrimination, exclusion, violence, inequality, or barriers that affect girls and young women. Whether your work focuses on advocacy, organising, awareness campaigns, capacity building, or other feminist initiatives, your group is welcome to apply as long as it aligns with feminist principles and operates within one of the three eligible countries.
