Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) has announced new career openings for Climate and Health Liaison Officers in the Pacific, offering professionals the opportunity to contribute to a major regional initiative addressing the health impacts of climate change.

These roles form part of a collaborative project led by SPREP’s Pacific Climate Change Centre in partnership with the University of Melbourne. The initiative focuses on strengthening national capacity to manage and reduce climate-related health risks across vulnerable Pacific Island nations.

About the Opportunity

Climate change continues to pose serious threats to public health in the Pacific, including rising temperatures, vector-borne diseases, water insecurity, and extreme weather events. The selected Climate and Health Liaison Officers will support coordination between environment and health sectors, enhance policy integration, and facilitate implementation of climate-health resilience strategies at national level.

Professionals appointed to these roles will work closely with government ministries, regional partners, and technical experts to advance climate adaptation efforts and safeguard community wellbeing.

Headquartered in Apia, Samoa, SPREP is the leading regional organisation mandated to protect and sustainably manage the Pacific’s environment and natural resources. Established in 1993, it serves 26 Members, including Pacific Island countries and metropolitan partners such as Australia, France, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and United States of America.

Guided by its 2017–2026 Strategic Plan, SPREP works across four core regional goals:

  • Strengthening climate change resilience

  • Protecting biodiversity and ecosystems

  • Improving waste management and pollution control

  • Advancing environmental governance

Through its Pacific Climate Change Centre, SPREP plays a central coordinating role in regional climate action.
