Applications are open for the fully funded Africa-Europe Youth Academy (AEYA) New Leaders Lab 2026. The programme is an initiative supported by the European Union that aims to equip young Africans with the leadership, entrepreneurial, and civic engagement skills needed to drive meaningful change in their communities. Through an interactive learning experience that combines online training, mentorship, coaching, networking, and peer collaboration, participants will strengthen their leadership capacity while connecting with emerging leaders from across the African continent. The programme is designed to empower young people to transform innovative ideas into sustainable community initiatives and contribute to inclusive development.

Program Benefits

Selected participants will receive fully funded access to the Africa-Europe Youth Academy’s New Leaders Lab, where they will benefit from comprehensive leadership and entrepreneurship training delivered through virtual learning sessions. Participants will also receive personalized mentorship and coaching from experienced professionals, gain practical knowledge that can be applied to community initiatives, expand their professional networks by connecting with young leaders from across Africa, and become part of the growing Africa-Europe Youth Academy alumni network that supports long-term collaboration and impact.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years of age at the time of application and must be residents of one of the eligible African countries. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in leadership, entrepreneurship, civic participation, social innovation, or community development. Individuals who are already leading initiatives or who aspire to create positive impact within their communities are encouraged to apply. Applicants should possess a working knowledge of English, French, or Portuguese, as these are the languages used throughout the programme. The academy welcomes applications from young people of all educational backgrounds and particularly encourages women, persons with disabilities, and individuals from underrepresented communities to participate.

The programme is open to young people residing in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea, Malawi, Mauritania, Mozambique, Niger, Senegal, Togo, and Zambia.
