Consular Officer & Visa Officer Jobs at the Royal Danish Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya – Apply now

The Royal Danish Embassy in Nairobi is recruiting two professionals to join its Regional Visa Hub, which provides consular and visa services across the region. The available positions are Consular Officer and Visa Officer (Case Worker 2).

Both are full-time, permanent positions based at the Danish Embassy in Runda, Nairobi, and offer an opportunity to work in an international and multicultural diplomatic environment.

1. Consular Officer

Position Details

  • Position: Consular Officer

The successful candidate will join the Embassy's visa and consular team, which currently has 16 full-time colleagues. The role will focus on providing consular assistance to Danish citizens and processing passport applications, while also supporting visa-related activities when required.

Key Responsibilities

The Consular Officer will be responsible for:

  • Responding to consular enquiries through telephone and email.
  • Handling consular cases involving Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Seychelles, Somalia and Eritrea.
  • Receiving and processing passport applications.
  • Working with Honorary Consuls in countries covered by the Embassy.
  • Legalising official documents.
  • Supporting visa case processing and other tasks when required.
  • Participating in relevant meetings, seminars, courses and video conferences.
  • Communicating with Danish authorities regarding consular matters.

Requirements

Candidates should ideally have experience in public administration, particularly within the social sector. Strong written and spoken English is required, while Danish language skills are considered a significant advantage.

The ideal candidate should also demonstrate:

  • Good judgement and strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment.
  • The ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
  • A thorough and service-oriented approach when dealing with citizens.
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to present cases clearly and concisely.

2. Visa Officer – Case Worker 2

Position Details

  • Position: Visa Officer – Case Worker 2
  • Eligibility: EU/Schengen nationals only
  • Employer: Royal Danish Embassy in Nairobi
  • Location: 13 Runda Drive, Runda, Nairobi, Kenya
  • Contract: Full-time, permanent
  • Working hours: 37 hours per week
  • Starting date: As soon as possible
  • Deadline: 11 September 2026

The Visa Officer will join the Regional Visa Hub and support the processing of Schengen visa applications handled by the Danish Embassy.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Process Schengen visa applications on a daily basis.
  • Make decisions on Schengen visa cases.
  • Ensure that applications are handled in accordance with Schengen visa rules and Danish Visa Guidelines.
  • Maintain accuracy, responsibility and thoroughness when processing cases.
  • Participate in relevant meetings, seminars, courses and video conferences.

Important Conditions

This position is specifically open to nationals of an EU or Schengen country.
