FULLY FUNDED : Apply for the Conservative AI Policy Fellowship 2027

Applications are open for the Winter 2027 cohort of the Conservative AI Policy Fellowship (CAPF), an eight-week, part-time programme for conservative policy professionals interested in understanding artificial intelligence and its growing influence on public policy.

Hosted by the Foundation for American Innovation (FAI), the fellowship brings together policy professionals in Washington, DC for discussions with technologists, researchers and policy experts working on some of the most consequential questions surrounding AI. No technical background in artificial intelligence is required.

About the Fellowship

The Conservative AI Policy Fellowship is designed for professionals who want to develop a practical understanding of AI and contribute to policy debates surrounding emerging technologies.

Over eight weeks, fellows participate in weekly sessions covering the policy, economic, national-security and societal implications of AI. The programme also includes a weekend retreat featuring intensive workshops, collaborative projects and networking opportunities.

The fellowship is part-time and requires approximately 2–3 hours of commitment during a typical week, in addition to attendance at the full weekend retreat.

What Makes a Strong Application?

Successful applicants are expected to demonstrate a serious interest in consequential questions surrounding AI and emerging technology.

FAI is particularly interested in candidates who can show:

  • Strong professional or academic performance
  • Initiative, ambition or leadership
  • Thoughtful judgment concerning AI policy and its trade-offs
  • A clear connection between AI policy and their current or future career
  • Curiosity about issues outside their existing area of expertise
  • A compelling reason for wanting to deepen their understanding of AI policy

Previous experience working on artificial intelligence is helpful but not mandatory.

Application Details

Applicants are expected to demonstrate why AI policy is relevant to their professional work and how participation in the fellowship could contribute to their longer-term goals.

The application should communicate a clear interest in artificial intelligence policy, evidence of professional or academic achievement, and the applicant's ability to think critically about complex policy questions.

The fellowship also expects participants to commit to attending the regular sessions and the full weekend retreat.

Selected fellows will have the opportunity to:

- Applicants do not need previous technical expertise in artificial intelligence. The programme places emphasis on policy judgment, intellectual curiosity, professional performance and the ability to engage thoughtfully with competing perspectives.
