Applications are now being accepted for the 2024 BBC World News Komla Dumor Award, honoring the legacy of the esteemed African journalist, Komla Dumor, known for his commitment to sharing authentic African narratives worldwide.
The award seeks to recognize an exceptional individual residing and working in Africa, demonstrating strong journalistic abilities, on-air charisma, and a remarkable talent for storytelling about Africa, with the potential to become a prominent figure in the field. The recipient will embark on a unique training opportunity with the BBC in London for three months, collaborating with various BBC News teams to produce an African story for global audiences.
The winner will receive mentorship from a seasoned BBC professional, participate in courses offered by the BBC Academy, and have their work and voice showcased internationally.
To qualify, applicants must currently work as journalists in Africa, possess excellent journalism skills with a focus on digital and social media, preferably have broadcasting experience, exhibit a compelling broadcasting personality and presentation skills, demonstrate the ability to conceive and pitch original African story ideas adhering to BBC editorial guidelines, and have a comprehensive understanding of African affairs.
