The Commonwealth Secretariat is excited to announce the launch of the 'Think Trade, Think Green' essay competition, a joint initiative by the Trade and Youth teams. This contest invites young scholars and students aged 18-29 to share their perspectives on a critical issue: How can trade policies in your country mitigate the effects of climate change?
Objective:
Encourage young Commonwealth citizens to explore the intersection of trade and climate change, proposing innovative solutions to address the crisis through trade policy.
Essay prompt:
Analyze how trade and trade policy can help alleviate a specific aspect of the climate crisis in your country. Identify a pressing problem, explain its connection to climate change, and clearly articulate how trade or trade policy can provide a solution.
Eligibility:
Open to Commonwealth nationals aged 18-29.
Awards:
- First prize: £1,000
- Second and third prizes: £500 each
The top three essays will be published in the Trade Competitiveness Briefing Series and launched at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa in October.
Submission guidelines:
- Essays should not exceed 2,000 words (including in-text references and footnotes, excluding reference list)
- Any referencing style is acceptable (in-text and reference list)
- Entries should be submitted as a single PDF or Word file, 1.5 spacing, Times New Roman font
- Include:
- Name
- Age
- Nationality
- Contact information (email, address, telephone)
- CV or short bio
