The African Youth Climate Champions Program, initiated by the Green Africa Youth Organization, aims to enhance young Africans' capacity to drive climate action. As youth voices gain momentum in global climate discussions, targeted training is crucial to ensure meaningful participation.
Launched in 2022, this fellowship develops expertise in UN climate governance, diplomacy, and negotiations. Each year, a diverse cohort of young leaders from government, civil society, academia, and marginalized communities comes together to:
- Grasp climate change frameworks, stakeholder roles, and institutional dynamics
- Leverage national delegations and youth influence in climate talks
- Contribute to policy-making, negotiation, and implementation of COP outcomes
- Master key UNFCCC mechanisms, including climate finance and technology
- Analyze COP, CMP, and CMA outcomes
- Understand treaty ratification processes and implications
- Engage confidently in COP negotiations
