Apply for the Pit to Palace Initiative’s SustainSME Program Cohort 3 for Kenyan SMEs

Applications are open for Cohort 3 of the SustainSME Program, a specialized accelerator designed to equip growth-oriented small and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Kenya with practical tools to thrive in an era of climate risk, sustainability compliance, and limited access to patient capital. Run by Pit to Palace Initiative, the program focuses on empowering enterprises to embed sustainability within their operations while also unlocking new opportunities for finance, markets, and long-term resilience.

Through SustainSME, participating businesses will gain access to a tailored sustainability roadmap, one-on-one coaching support, and enhanced linkages to patient capital providers. Within just 12 months, enterprises will also be guided to publish their own sustainability report, helping them showcase their climate leadership and credibility to investors and partners.

The program has already delivered impressive results. Ninety percent of alumni have successfully accessed climate-linked finance opportunities, while more than 300 staff members have benefited directly through participating SMEs. Previous cohorts have published sustainability reports and connected with high-impact technical assistance and blended capital programs, including support from organizations such as KCIC and KIE.

Cohort 3 is now looking for Kenyan enterprises ready to take their next big step. Eligible businesses must be mid-sized companies with at least 30 employees and three or more years of operation. Applicants should demonstrate a clear commitment to integrating sustainability within their core business operations, completing the program, and producing a sustainability report within one year. A participation fee of KES 90,000 is required, which covers 15 full days of in-person training and six months of on-demand coaching support.

The program particularly encourages applications from youth and women-led businesses, even if they do not fully meet all requirements, recognizing their potential to drive inclusive, climate-resilient growth.

If your enterprise is struggling to navigate complex sustainability standards, rising climate risks, or the challenges of accessing affordable capital, SustainSME offers the tools and networks to help you adapt and grow. Applications close on September 12, 2025.
