Applications are now being accepted for the 2025 Kenya Community Development Foundation (KCDF) Young Environmentalist Innovation Challenge, a program designed to empower youth with a passion for environmental conservation. Established through the generous support of Mackenzie Scott, this initiative seeks to nurture young leaders who demonstrate commitment, creativity, and actionable solutions to environmental challenges.

The Young Environmentalist Innovation Challenge encourages submissions of novel approaches that promote sustainable management of natural resources and foster environmental stewardship. Through this platform, both individuals and youth-led organizations have the opportunity to receive funding to expand and enhance their innovative projects addressing environmental issues.

This marks the third public call for applications under the KCDF YEIC program. The current edition aims to identify promising environmental innovations led by young people, support their growth, and help scale solutions that have proven successful at the community level. With the theme “Scaling Innovations for Environmental Impact,” the program focuses on initiatives that have already demonstrated tangible results and are ready to broaden their reach and amplify their positive effects.

Selected applicants will benefit from grant support to advance their work. Individual youth innovators between the ages of 15 and 35 with tested and impactful environmental projects may receive funding of up to KES 1,500,000. Youth-led organizations or companies with registered legal status and scalable environmental initiatives are eligible for grants of up to KES 5,000,000.

Applications open on 14th August 2025 and close on 30th September 2025. Shortlisted projects will undergo review and site visits by March 2026, with award notifications scheduled for June 2026. Only innovators who live in Kenya and implement their projects within the country are eligible to participate.
