The fellowships aim to offer exceptional individuals unique opportunities to become future boundary-breakers by helping them develop essential skills, gain new perspectives, and establish important global relationships.

Scientific Fellowships for Master, PhD, and Medical Students
The program provides scientific fellowships for outstanding master’s, PhD, and medical students to pursue international research projects, internships, and more, offering additional funding for international placements to enrich their academic programs.

In alignment with the commitment to gender equality in science, applications are highly encouraged from women, individuals from low- & middle-income countries, parents with caregiving responsibilities for children, and individuals working within Germany with German as a second language.

Who can apply?

  • Fellowship in Drug Discovery Sciences: For master’s or PhD students from all scientific disciplines, including pharmacy and data science, focusing on fundamental or applied studies relevant to the pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare industries.
  • Fellowship for Agricultural Science: For master’s or PhD students from any scientific discipline, including data science, with fundamental or applied studies relevant to the Crop Science industry.
  • Fellowship for Medical Sciences: For all students of human and veterinary medicine, or master’s and PhD students in medical engineering, applied medical sciences, data science in medicine, and public health.

These fellowships are established in memory of Otto Bayer, former research director at Bayer; Jeff Schell, co-founder of Plant Genetic Systems (now part of Bayer Crop Science); and Carl Duisberg, former Chairman of Bayer's Board of Management.

New! Fellowship for Climate & Health
For students in human or veterinary medicine, or master’s and PhD students in natural sciences, pharmacy, public health, or epidemiology with a focus on the impact of climate change on health, particularly:

  • The health of women and vulnerable populations
  • Cardio-Renal Health
  • Neglected Tropical Diseases
  • Respiratory Health

What can applicants apply for?
Applicants can receive up to €10,000 in funding and undertake fellowships for up to six months. The fellowship can be used for research projects, internships, and more. Students studying in Germany must undertake placements in a second country, while those studying outside Germany must complete their fellowships at a German research institution.

Bayer Foundation-Lindau Fellowship for Early Career Academic Researchers
The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting provides early career scientists worldwide with a unique opportunity to interact with Nobel laureates. Participants can learn from each other, sharing insights across scientific disciplines and generations.

Who can apply?
This is for early career scientists studying or conducting research. For more details, please refer to the selection criteria and guidelines on the Lindau Nobel Foundation Website here.

What is it about?
Each year, 20 early career researchers from around the world are selected to attend the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting as Bayer Foundation-Lindau Fellows. In addition, a special evening of scientific exchange will be held with leading industry personalities.

Fellowship for STEM Student Teachers & Teachers
This fellowship is designed for teachers shaping the perspectives of future generations, providing funding for internships, research projects, and training related to STEM education.

Who can apply?
This fellowship is available to applicants currently studying or working in Germany:

  • Trainee teachers or students in pedagogy (Bachelor, Master, PhD, Staatsexamen) focusing on STEM subjects.
  • Newly qualified teachers (<3 years) with a primary focus on STEM.
  • Teachers in elementary or special education seeking to enhance their STEM education knowledge.

What can applicants apply for?
Applicants can receive up to €10,000 in funding and undertake fellowships for up to twelve months. The fellowship can be used for internships, research projects, training, summer schools, and research courses related to STEM education in Germany or abroad.

This fellowship is established in memory of Kurt Hansen, former Chairman of Bayer's Board of Management.

Fellowship for Apprentices & Early Career Professionals
This fellowship offers opportunities for early career individuals without an academic background, providing funding for internships, research projects, personal development, and support for young parents pursuing further training.

Who can apply?
This fellowship is for apprentices, dual students, or early career professionals (less than five years of employment) without a university degree, currently pursuing their apprenticeship or profession in a German-speaking country (Germany, Austria, or Switzerland). Parents and individuals with German as a second language are particularly encouraged to apply.

What can applicants apply for?
Applicants are eligible for up to €10,000 in funding and can undertake fellowships for up to twelve months. The fellowship can be used for internships, research projects, personal development (including language courses), and support for parents undertaking further training in Germany and abroad.
