FULLY FUNDED : Apply for the AIMS South Africa – DeepMind AI for Science Master’s Scholarship 2026/2027
Young scientists and innovators from across the African continent can now apply for the 2026/2027 AI for Science Master’s Scholarship, offered through a collaboration between AIMS South Africa and Google DeepMind. This specialised stream forms part of AIMS South Africa’s Master’s in Mathematical Sciences and is designed for students eager to explore the growing links between artificial intelligence and scientific discovery.
Program Overview
Launched in 2023, the AI for Science programme blends intensive coursework with hands-on research over a fully residential one-year period. Scholars join a vibrant academic community, working with peers and experts in mathematics, machine learning, and data-driven science.

Additional Information
Through a generous investment from Google DeepMind, the programme funds 40 fully supported places each year. Awardees receive:
- Full tuition coverage
- Accommodation and living support
- Access to computing resources and necessary equipment
- Research supervision from leading scientists in the field
- Hold citizenship from any African country.
- Will have completed a four-year bachelor’s degree, or a three-year degree plus an honours year, by August 2025 (or December 2025 for applicants from Southern Africa).
- Have not previously received a scholarship to study at any AIMS centre.
- Demonstrate strong interest in mathematics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
