FULLY FUNDED : Apply for the AWLN 8th Intergenerational Retreat 2026 for Young African Women Leaders

Applications are now open for the African Women Leaders Network (AWLN) 8th Intergenerational Retreat (IGR 8), a flagship leadership programme bringing together emerging and established women leaders from across Africa and the Diaspora to strengthen leadership capacity, foster mentorship, and promote collective action for Africa’s transformation.

The retreat will take place in Libreville, Gabon, in December 2026 and will provide a platform for young African women leaders to connect with influential leaders, exchange knowledge, develop leadership skills, and build networks that support gender equality and sustainable development.

Supported by the African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN), the AWLN Intergenerational Retreat aligns with the goals of Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by advancing women’s participation in leadership, governance, peacebuilding, and economic development.

Participant Expectations

Selected leaders will be expected to:

  • Actively participate in discussions, workshops, and collaborative sessions.
  • Share experiences and knowledge with other participants.
  • Build partnerships across countries and sectors.
  • Promote AWLN’s mission and values within their communities.
  • Apply lessons learned to strengthen initiatives advancing women’s leadership and gender equality.
  • Continue engaging with the AWLN network after the retreat.

Eligibility Criteria
Who Can Apply?

- The retreat is seeking applications from young African women leaders from the continent and the Diaspora who have demonstrated meaningful impact in their communities, sectors, or areas of work.

Eligible applicants must:

- Be between 18 and 45 years old.

- Demonstrate measurable or recognized community impact.

- Show leadership experience, innovation, or active contribution in one of AWLN’s focus areas:

- Peace and Security.

- Governance and Political Participation.

- Financial Inclusion and Economic Development.

- Natural Resources and Mining.

- Agriculture, Rural Economy and Land.

- Social Mobilisation.

- Youth and Emerging Leadership.
