The 2025 Australia Awards Scholarships are now open for applications. These prestigious international awards, provided by the Australian Government, aim to nurture the next generation of global leaders in developing countries. Recipients, selected based on professional and personal qualities, academic competence, and potential impact on development challenges, undergo study and research to acquire skills and knowledge for driving change and fostering enduring connections with Australia. The application process encourages submissions from women, people with disabilities, and other marginalized groups.

For eligible African countries, the priority areas of study in this round include climate change, agriculture and food security, mining and energy, foreign policy and international security, and gender, disability, and social inclusion. The Australia Awards scholarships offer citizens of eligible African countries the opportunity to pursue a Master’s qualification at an Australian tertiary institution, with awards set to commence in 2025.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the Australia Awards Scholarships:

1. Be a minimum of 25 years old as of February 1, 2025.
2. Possess a minimum of 5 years of post-graduate work experience in a field relevant to their chosen area of study.
3. Hold citizenship in and be a resident of Algeria, Benin, Botswana, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, or Zimbabwe. Applicants residing in and applying from their country of citizenship are preferred, unless employed by an African Regional Organisation or working on a diplomatic mission for their home country.
4. Not currently hold or be enrolled in a Master’s degree or equivalent (equivalent to a Master’s degree in their home country).
5. Possess an undergraduate degree equivalent to an Australian undergraduate degree.
6. Have not previously been awarded a long-term Australia Award.
7. Meet the minimum English language proficiency requirements, with a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 overall and no band less than 6.0, or an internet-based TOEFL score of at least 84 with a minimum of 21 in all subtests, or a PTE Academic overall score of 58 with no communicative skill score less than 50. These scores must be valid as of January 1, 2025, excluding candidates whose first language is English and have undertaken their education in English.
