Applications are now being accepted for the upcoming 2025 edition of the African Girls Can Code Initiative (AGCCI) Camp. This empowering program is spearheaded by UN Women Kenya in collaboration with Siemens AG, the African Union Commission (AUC), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). It seeks to nurture digital talent by offering an intensive experience to 100 young women and girls from across Kenya. The initiative focuses on cultivating next-generation female leaders in technology by equipping them with essential digital capabilities, mentorship, and leadership coaching to take on pivotal roles in Africa’s digital advancement.

In partnership with the Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy, the Ministry of Gender, and the Ministry of Education, UN Women Kenya will conduct two residential training camps in Nairobi during August and September 2025. Each session will welcome 50 dynamic participants for a hands-on immersion into various technological disciplines. Attendees will engage with forward-looking topics such as artificial intelligence, coding, cybersecurity, civic technology, and digital entrepreneurship—delivered in an environment designed to ignite curiosity, foster peer learning, and empower innovation.

The initiative is open to Kenyan girls and young women aged between 17 and 25, with a strong emphasis on inclusivity and outreach to underrepresented and marginalized communities. Those currently enrolled in academic institutions or recently graduated and who demonstrate a keen interest in technology or digital creativity are particularly encouraged to apply. Young women with disabilities are also welcome and will be supported throughout the program to ensure full and active participation. While having a background in coding is beneficial, it is not essential—what matters most is a strong desire to grow, explore, and lead.

Participants will benefit from an all-expenses-paid residential boot camp experience that merges technical training with real-life application. Beyond building coding and digital skills, the camps offer direct engagement with female STEM role models, AGCCI program alumni, and professional mentors. Learners will explore how technology intersects with social justice by delving into themes like gender equity, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the Beijing Declaration. There will also be meaningful dialogue around online safety, with sessions that explore strategies to address gender-based violence and the unique challenges women face in digital spaces.
