Are you a passionate and driven young leader committed to shaping a more just and sustainable future? Applications are now being accepted for the highly anticipated fifth cohort of the Nairobi Summer School on Climate Justice (NSSCJ). This transformative program brings together grassroots climate activists, advocates, and changemakers from across the continent and beyond for an intensive two-week experience. This year, the program will be hosted at Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia, from August 17 to August 30, 2025, with participants expected to arrive on August 16 and depart on August 31.

Established by the Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) and its partners, NSSCJ stands as a groundbreaking initiative that empowers a new generation of climate justice leaders. Since its inception in 2020, it has trained over 1,500 individuals from 87 countries, equipping them with the tools, insights, and connections needed to champion environmental and social justice in their communities. Designed to foster innovation and inclusivity, the program provides a vibrant space where participants can engage in meaningful dialogue, hands-on learning, and collaborative problem-solving.

Through a carefully curated curriculum, participants will explore key themes around equity, resilience, and sustainability, while gaining practical knowledge in driving climate justice at local, regional, and global levels. The program draws on a diverse pool of facilitators, from scholar-activists and academics to grassroots leaders and policy experts, making it a melting pot of experiences and perspectives. NSSCJ places strong emphasis on intergenerational learning and cross-sectoral collaboration, creating opportunities for mentorship, peer learning, and the development of bold, community-led solutions.

This year’s program encourages participation from individuals of various backgrounds and sectors, including but not limited to young climate advocates, community organizers, smallholder farmers, Indigenous groups, faith-based organizations, researchers, civil society actors, persons with disabilities, and youth and women’s collectives. No matter your level of formal education, if you are committed to advancing climate justice, this opportunity welcomes your passion and potential.

To be eligible, applicants must be between 18 and 35 years of age at the time of application and possess at least a high school education (O-level or its equivalent). Proficiency in English, French, or Portuguese is essential, and international applicants are required to hold a valid passport.

A limited number of scholarships are available and will be awarded based on a competitive selection process.

International participants selected for the scholarship will get USD 3,500, which includes airfare, visa, accommodation, tuition, meals, and certification. Ethiopian nationals will get USD 2,500, which covers local transport, accommodation, and related expenses. There is also an option to participate virtually and these will get USD 300, which covers tuition and a certificate of completion.

This is more than just a learning program—it is a call to action for the next generation of climate leaders. If you are ready to build meaningful connections, acquire practical skills, and become part of a powerful movement for climate justice in Africa and beyond, this is your chance to take that step.
