FULLY FUNDED TO BERLIN : Apply for the Female Science Talents Intensive Track 2027

Applications are open for the Female Science Talents Intensive Track 2027, a one-year career development programme supporting 20 outstanding early-career women and gender-diverse researchers from different scientific disciplines.

Organised by the Falling Walls Foundation, the programme is designed for researchers who are ready to strengthen their professional skills, expand their networks and explore new pathways towards leadership. Participants will benefit from mentoring, career-focused workshops, peer learning and opportunities to engage with leading figures across science, academia, business and politics.

The programme is particularly encouraging applications from talented researchers from the Global South.

About the Programme

The Female Science Talents Intensive Track brings together a diverse group of high-potential researchers for a year of professional development and community building.

Through regular online sessions and two in-person gatherings in Berlin, participants will have opportunities to improve their communication and leadership skills, gain greater visibility for their research and connect with an international community of scientists and role models.

The 2027 programme will run from February 2027 through January 2028.

Selection Criteria

Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate strong scientific ability, innovative thinking and commitment to advancing knowledge in their field.

Applicants should also be willing to actively contribute to the Female Science Talents community through:

  • Peer-to-peer learning and knowledge sharing.
  • Mentoring future programme participants.
  • Organising or contributing to community events.
  • Participating actively in workshops and discussions.
  • Collaborating with fellow participants.
  • Sharing ideas and supporting an inclusive learning environment.

Strong communication skills are also important. Applicants should be able to communicate their research, career ambitions and ideas clearly to wider audiences.

Selection considers scientific excellence, motivation, potential and the applicant's ability to present themselves effectively.

Programme Commitment

Participants will take part in online workshops, career talks, mentoring activities and peer-to-peer sessions throughout the year.

Regular participation is expected, with approximately 3–5 hours of commitment per month.

In addition, participants will travel to Berlin twice during the programme:

  • May 2027: 4-day International Spring Gathering
  • November 2027: 5–6-day International Fall Gathering and participation in the Falling Walls Science Summit

The programme language is English.

Costs and Travel Support

The Female Science Talents Intensive Track is free of charge.

The Falling Walls Foundation covers accommodation and catering for the two Berlin gatherings and reimburses eligible travel costs, including trains, flights and public transportation. Overseas flights can be booked directly by the Foundation.

Visa-related expenses are not covered, although the Foundation assists participants with invitation documents and the visa process.

How to Apply

Applicants will complete an online application covering:

  • A short personal introduction.
  • A brief description of their research.
  • Career goals and professional vision.
  • How the programme could support their objectives.
  • How they could contribute to the Female Science Talents community.

Applicants must also submit:

  • A CV highlighting key career stages and achievements.
  • A video introduction of no more than two minutes explaining their motivation.

Organisers and Supporters

The Female Science Talents programme is organised by the Falling Walls Foundation and supported by partners including the Bayer Foundation, Elsevier Foundation, VolkswagenStiftung, EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg and the German Research Foundation (DFG).

The programme offers early-career researchers more than professional training; it provides a platform for building lasting international relationships, gaining visibility and developing the confidence and skills needed to pursue leadership in science.

The jury is expected to make its final selection by the end of December 2026, with successful applicants contacted in January 2027.

Eligibility Criteria
The programme welcomes applications from:

- PhD students who are in the final stages of their research.

- Postdoctoral researchers who completed their PhD in 2021 or later, according to the 2027 call.

- Researchers with qualifications equivalent to a PhD or postdoctoral experience, including medical degrees and other advanced professional scientific training.

- Applicants from all academic disciplines.

- Researchers from universities and research institutions worldwide.

- The programme uses an inclusive definition of women and welcomes cis women, trans women, genderqueer and non-binary applicants.

- Applicants from the Global South are particularly encouraged to apply.
