The Energy Transition Changemakers initiative, led by the COP28 UAE Presidency, aims to promote collaboration within the private sector to implement innovative and scalable decarbonization projects worldwide. These projects should showcase solutions that facilitate and expedite the transition to cleaner energy sources.

The COP28 Presidency invites projects from across the globe, whether in development or operation, that have successfully tackled challenges through groundbreaking innovations or approaches with potential for replication and expansion. This initiative seeks participation from companies and organizations of all sizes. Projects falling under these four sectors will be considered:

1. Renewables, Renewable Integration & Clean Power
2. Energy Efficiency
3. Low-Carbon Hydrogen
4. Heavy Emitting Sectors - Steel, Cement, and Aluminum

After the application and evaluation process:

- The top projects will be recognized as Energy Transition Changemakers.
- Executives from these recognized projects will have the opportunity to present their work in dedicated sessions for each sector.
- An award event will honor all the Changemakers from these sectors on December 5 during COP28 UAE at Expo City Dubai.

Selection Process:

- The application portal is open online from September 8 to October 9.
- Questions can be submitted to Changemakers@cop28.com until September 29.
- COP28 will initially review applications for completeness and relevance to the eligible sectors.
- An international committee of sector experts from leading organizations will shortlist projects based on their technological or methodological innovation and scalability to other projects.
- Top projects will be chosen from the shortlist to ensure diversity in terms of project types, locations, organizations, and innovative technologies or approaches. Selected projects will be notified in early November.
