COP29 refers to the 29th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The COP is the supreme body of the UNFCCC, and it meets annually to discuss and address global climate change issues.
I personally I have been to the past two COP meetings and these bring together several representatives from nearly 200 countries including government officials, climate experts and observers from civil society organizations to discuss and address global climate change issues.
While at COP, they review progress in implementing the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement, they discuss and adopt decisions on various climate - related issues and also provide a platform for a number of countries to showcase their efforts to address climate change.
These are very crucial meetings really and they play a crucial role in global efforts to combat climate change and achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement which is to mainly limit the global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius and pursue efforts to limit 1.5 degree Celsius to 1.5 degree above pre-industrial levels.
