Kulturwissenschaftliches Institut (KWI) in Essen.
Following in the footsteps of previous institutes for advanced study, the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities (KWI) in Essen is an interdisciplinary research centre for the social sciences and humanities. KWI, which is situated in the Ruhr Area, provides a setting for autonomous and creative humanities study as well as a number of chances for public participation. The fields of literary and cultural sociology, cultural science studies, science communication, and public humanities are currently the focus of research at KWI. Cultures of communication are one of the topics of future projects. Developing novel approaches to connect the theories, concepts, research topics, and methodologies of philology, cultural studies, and the social sciences is one of KWI's primary objectives.
Through global cooperation, they are committed to advancing the transdisciplinary agenda. The Academy in Exile, which provides research space to colleagues whose academic independence is threatened, makes a significant contribution to the scholarly and political activities.
International researchers and academics of German nationality, as well as those with completed PhDs and postdoctoral experience, are eligible to apply for the Thyssen@KWI Fellowship programme. Research pertaining to KWI's multidisciplinary objective should be the focus of the fellowship, encompassing a range of project types. It is anticipated that the Thyssen@KWI Fellow will conduct workshops, take part in academic events, and be present at the institution for a minimum of three days per week. While they aren't required to instruct, they can engage in seminars and lecture series and provide inspiration for others. Strong English language proficiency is required for the fellowship programme, and recipients must start their fellowships on April 1.
Additional Information
Research fellows who have finished their PhD and have accumulated several years of postdoctoral research experience are invited to apply. The research agenda of KWI should be addressed in project applications.
