Are you a journalist with a keen interest in climate change and its impacts? Climate Tracker, in collaboration with Oxfam, presents an extraordinary opportunity for you to elevate your career. This initiative offers virtual training, a hands-on workshop in Guatemala, and the chance to attend COP30 in Brazil with all travel expenses covered. By participating, you’ll contribute to shedding light on the significant effects of climate change in Central and Mesoamerica.

This unique program is specifically crafted for journalists living in Guatemala, Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama, and El Salvador who are passionate about covering the pressing issue of climate-induced losses and damages. The program blends online learning sessions with an immersive experience in Guatemala and the possibility of reporting from one of the most significant climate conferences in the world.

Participants will embark on an enriching learning journey through a month-long virtual training program. These online sessions, scheduled from February 17 to March 23, 2025, will explore diverse topics, such as understanding the scientific foundations of climate-induced losses, non-monetary damages in the region, and the integration of climate litigation and interdisciplinary research into journalistic practices. Attendees will gain insight into how slow and extreme climate events impact communities, with a focus on attribution science and its relevance in storytelling.

Following the virtual phase, the top eight participants will be invited to Antigua, Guatemala, from April 21 to April 24, 2025, to take part in an intensive in-person workshop. This event will provide opportunities to refine reporting skills, exchange insights with fellow journalists, and deepen understanding of the region’s climate challenges.

Additionally, all participants of the virtual training can apply for a chance to attend COP30 in Belém, Brazil, in November 2025. This opportunity includes full funding for travel, accommodation, and meals. Selected correspondents will also receive specialized training beforehand to enhance their reporting impact during the conference.
