Fully Funded To Jakarta, Indonesia : Apply for the ASEAN Foundation Model ASEAN Meeting (AFMAM) East Asia Summit 2025 (AFMAM EAS 2025)
The ASEAN Foundation, in collaboration with the Missions of Australia, China, and Japan to ASEAN, will host the ASEAN Foundation Model ASEAN Meeting East Asia 2025 (AFMAM EAS 2025) from 15–19 September 2025 in Jakarta, Indonesia, to mark the 20th anniversary of the East Asia Summit (EAS).
This immersive youth diplomacy initiative will bring together 60 university students from East Asia Summit countries to simulate high-level ASEAN and EAS meetings. Participants will assume the roles of senior ASEAN and Dialogue Partner officials, engage in policy negotiations, and collaboratively draft an Outcome Document reflecting youth perspectives on regional cooperation.
The program includes:

Pre-conference online training on ASEAN, EAS, diplomacy, and thematic issues (Offshore Renewable Energy, Disaster Management, Marine Pollution).

In-conference training on ASEAN protocols and drafting techniques.

Main simulation sessions, including a Model East Asia Summit, culminating in a signed Outcome Document.
Key Discussion Topics:

Offshore Renewable Energy (AEC) – exploring financing, smart grids, and regional cooperation for sustainable energy.

Disaster Management (APSC) – enhancing ASEAN's coordinated response through frameworks like AADMER and ASEAN SHIELD.

Marine Debris & Pollution (ASCC) – addressing plastic waste through regional action on waste reduction, collection, and reuse.
AFMAM EAS 2025 promotes diplomacy, youth leadership, and regional integration by empowering young leaders to contribute meaningfully to ASEAN’s future.

Additional Information
This support includes round-trip transportation from the nearest major city in their home country to Jakarta, Indonesia, as well as coverage for accommodation, meals, and local travel throughout the programme. Students from other East Asia Summit countries—namely China, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, the Russian Federation, and the United States—are also encouraged to apply, with funding details for these participants currently being finalized.
- Be actively enrolled in a diploma or undergraduate program (or its equivalent) at a higher education institution located in one of the eligible nations listed above.
- Be between the ages of 18 and 26 at the time the event takes place.
- Possess strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken (official language test scores like TOEFL or IELTS are not required).
