Applications are open for the 2026 “Making Visible the Invisible” Fellowship Programme, an interdisciplinary initiative hosted by Utrecht University in collaboration with Towards a Circular Economy and Society.

This fellowship invites individuals from diverse backgrounds to explore the unseen forces shaping today’s world—ranging from hidden environmental impacts to structural inequalities—and to reimagine pathways toward more sustainable and equitable futures.

About the Fellowship

The programme is designed as a short-term, immersive experience that encourages participants to investigate overlooked issues within global systems of production, consumption, and resource use. It places strong emphasis on uncovering narratives that are often ignored and experimenting with alternative ways of thinking and living.

Rather than focusing solely on critique, fellows are encouraged to propose creative, forward-looking ideas that contribute to regenerative and inclusive solutions.

What Fellows Will Do

Selected participants will:

• Examine hidden environmental, social, and economic dynamics shaping modern life

• Explore who benefits from existing systems and who is disproportionately affected

• Develop and present work that sparks dialogue—this could take the form of workshops, performances, films, or discussions

• Collaborate with researchers, practitioners, and external partners

• Contribute fresh perspectives that challenge conventional approaches to sustainability

Fellowship Details

2026 Theme: Making Visible the Invisible

This year’s focus centers on uncovering what lies beneath everyday systems, including:

• The environmental and social costs of production and consumption

• The role of global supply chains and power dynamics

• The unequal distribution of risks and benefits

• New ways to transition from extractive economies to regenerative systems

Applicants are expected to submit a proposal along with supporting documents. Selected fellows will be notified within weeks after the deadline.
