Apply for the ISLA Program 2025: Funding and Support for Youth Climate Activists
Young climate activists around the world now have an incredible opportunity to amplify their impact on a global stage. The International Support for Local Activists (ISLA) Program is officially open for applications. Designed to support youth-led climate organizations, this initiative is carried out by Klimadelegation e.V. (KD) in collaboration with the Climate Diplomacy Action Programme (CDAP). With funding from the International Climate Initiative (IKI) and backing from the German Federal Foreign Office (FFO), the program aims to empower young changemakers through financial assistance and capacity-building opportunities.
This year’s ISLA initiative is focused on strengthening youth participation from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, MENA, and the Pacific. Selected organizations will receive crucial funding to enable their members to attend key climate negotiations, including the SB62 conference in Bonn, Germany (June 16-26, 2025) and COP30 in Belém, Brazil (November 10-21, 2025). Beyond financial support, successful applicants will gain access to expert-led training sessions designed to enhance their advocacy skills and equip them for effective engagement at these high-level climate summits.
It is important to note that while the program provides funding and training, it does not cover accreditation for SB62 or COP30. Applicants are required to secure their own accreditation before applying. Those who plan to attend the Conference of Youth (COY) must also arrange their own access. Each selected organization will have the opportunity to nominate three to five representatives, ranked in priority order, with two to three individuals receiving full financial support for travel and participation. The training sessions, however, will be open to all members of the chosen organizations.
The ISLA Program is seeking applications from well-established youth climate organizations that have demonstrated meaningful impact at local, national, or regional levels. Groups must have a clear plan for their participation at the upcoming climate negotiations. The initiative is designed to support and elevate their ongoing work rather than impose a strict agenda, allowing selected activists to focus on their priorities while benefiting from strategic guidance and mentorship.
To ensure diversity and inclusivity, selection criteria will prioritize youth-led groups with members aged 18 to 30 (with some flexibility up to 35). The program encourages gender-balanced participation, with special emphasis on female and LGBTQI+ representation. Additionally, racial and ethnic diversity will be considered, with priority given to marginalized communities, particularly Indigenous youth organizations. Geographic representation from regions most affected by climate change will also be a key factor in the selection process.
Youth groups with strong advocacy backgrounds, a history of impactful climate action, and a clear vision for their participation at SB62 and COP30 are encouraged to apply. Prior experience at climate conferences is not a requirement, but applicants should outline their strategy for engagement at these global events.
The application deadline is Sunday, April 13, 2025, at 23:59 UTC. Those needing further information or clarification can reach out via email at isla@klimadelegation.de. This is a rare chance for young climate leaders to secure funding, gain essential training, and make a significant impact at two of the most critical climate events of the year. Don’t miss the opportunity to be part of a global movement shaping the future of climate action.
