FULLY FUNDED TO SB62, BONN: Apply for the African Youth Commission’s African Activists for Climate Justice (AACJ) project support to attend the UN SB62 in Germany
Applications are now open for young African changemakers working on climate action to receive full travel support to participate in the 62nd session of the Subsidiary Bodies (SB 62) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), scheduled to take place in Bonn, Germany, from June 16 to 26, 2025.
This initiative is led by the African Youth Commission (AYC) under the African Activists for Climate Justice (AACJ) project, a multi-year programme supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands. The goal is to amplify the voices of young African leaders within global climate policy spaces by supporting their direct involvement in key international climate discussions.
The opportunity targets dynamic youth between the ages of 18 and 35 who come from select African nations, namely Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Senegal, Ethiopia, Somalia, Mozambique, and Burkina Faso. To be considered, candidates must be connected to a youth-led organization and must already be accredited for SB 62. Applicants are also expected to either already hold a valid Schengen visa or demonstrate a strong history of successful visa applications, particularly within the Schengen area, and show clear evidence of being able to obtain a visa before the event.
Participation is limited to a one-week period during the two-week conference, meaning selected applicants will be funded to attend either the first or the second week. Candidates with previous engagement in the UNFCCC space — through participation in earlier COPs, SB meetings, or as part of youth or civil society delegations — are strongly encouraged to apply. In addition to international experience, applicants should be actively involved in climate-related advocacy, policy work, negotiations, or hands-on implementation within their communities.
Preference will be given to those who have prior exposure to UNFCCC events, particularly in Bonn, and to individuals playing significant roles in national climate movements or policy-related youth coalitions. Leaders working on climate justice through grassroots, national, or international channels will be prioritized.
Successful applicants will receive comprehensive support covering the cost of an economy-class return ticket, accommodation, and daily living allowances during their stay in Germany, all in line with AYC’s standard funding rates.
Interested individuals should send a formal expression of interest, along with their CV, accreditation proof, biodata page of their passport, and visa (if available), to ayc@auyc.org. Applications must be received no later than the close of business on Thursday, June 12, 2025. Since the selection process operates on a rolling basis, early submission is highly encouraged to enhance chances of being considered.
