Fully Funded To Sweden : Apply for the African Scholarship Programme

The African Scholarship Program, which offers early career researchers located in Africa the chance to work and further their ongoing research at the Nordic Africa Institute, is currently accepting submissions.

Access to the Institute's library, hosting by Institute researchers, networking opportunities, and other tools that support an engaging research environment are all provided by the scholarship.

Through the initiative, the Nordic Africa Institute hopes to foster and create relationships with the Nordic and African research communities while also helping to increase capacity in the production of knowledge about Africa.

Program Benefits
The scholarship covers a round-trip airfare (economy class), accommodation, a daily subsistence allowance of 400 SEK (around 40 USD), an installation grant of 2,500 SEK (approximately 250 USD), and access to a shared office workspace with a desk computer at the Institute. Please note, the subsistence allowance is provided only for the days spent in Uppsala.

Guest Researchers can also access the Uppsala University Library and the Library of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.

The stay lasts about 90 days (3 months). Additionally, please be aware that most academic institutions in Nordic countries, including the Nordic Africa Institute, are closed or operate at reduced capacity between 15 June and 15 August, and 15 December to 15 January.
Eligibility Criteria
This scholarship initiative is aimed at early-career researchers based in Africa who are working on research related to the continent. The research should fall within the Social Sciences and Humanities fields, with a focus on contemporary Africa. It must also align with the core values of the UN Agenda 2030, particularly in relation to the five key impact areas of the Institute.

The programme is open to two primary groups of early-career researchers:
1. Full-time staff members at African universities or research institutions who are enrolled in a doctoral programme within Africa and do not have access to international funding.
2. Postdoctoral researchers who have completed their PhD within the past four years.

The Institute aims to ensure a balanced representation in terms of gender and geographic focus and encourages applications focusing on gender issues and the status of women in society.
