FULLY FUNDED TO UGANDA: Apply for the African Leadership Forum’s youth competition (2,000 USD Cash Prizes)
Applications are open for the 2025 Youth Leadership Competition, an exciting opportunity for young Africans to share their vision for a better future. This prestigious contest is organized as part of the African Leadership Forum (ALF), set to take place in Kampala, Uganda, on April 7–8, 2025. The forum, convened by H.E. Dr. Jakaya Kikwete, former President of Tanzania, and H.E. Hailemariam Desalegn, former Prime Minister of Ethiopia, will bring together leaders and changemakers from across the continent.
This year’s competition invites African citizens aged 18 to 25, including those in the diaspora, to contribute their ideas on advancing sustainable development. The theme for ALF 2025, “Realizing Sustainable Development Goals in Africa: Progress and Way Forward,” calls for fresh perspectives on how African leaders can accelerate SDG implementation.
Participants must submit an original 500 to 700-word essay addressing the question:
“If you were an African leader, how would you accelerate the implementation of SDGs on the continent?”
Submissions should be typed in Arial, size 11, single-spaced, with 1-inch margins, and saved as a Microsoft Word document. To ensure the originality of all entries, applicants must also submit a statement of authenticity and intellectual property ownership, available for download on the competition’s website. Essays will be evaluated based on creativity, originality, language use, and alignment with the competition’s theme.
Winning entries will receive significant recognition, with up to five winners being selected. In addition to their essays being showcased at the African Leadership Forum, winners will be asked to create posters visually illustrating their ideas. These posters will be displayed during the event, offering an opportunity to share their insights with top African leaders.
The grand prize winner will be awarded USD $2,000 and will have the honor of presenting their essay during the prestigious ALF Gala Dinner, attended by distinguished guests from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.
For selected winners who reside outside Uganda, travel expenses—including visa fees, airfare, and accommodation—will be fully covered by UONGOZI Institute. However, all winners must ensure they have valid travel documents to participate in the forum.
The deadline for submissions is February 18, 2025. This competition is more than just an essay contest—it’s an opportunity for young Africans to influence decision-makers, gain recognition for their ideas, and contribute to shaping the continent’s future.
If you’re a young visionary eager to make an impact, don’t miss this chance to share your leadership insights on a continental stage. Submit your application today and be part of the conversation driving Africa’s development forward!
