FULLY FUNDED : Apply for the Africa–Europe Youth Academy (AEYA) New Leaders Lab 2026
Applications are open for the first cohort of the AEYA New Leaders Lab, a pan-African youth leadership initiative designed to equip young people with practical skills in leadership, entrepreneurship, and community transformation.
The program is part of the Africa–Europe Youth Academy (AEYA) and is supported by the European Union, implemented in partnership with AICS (Italian Agency for Development Cooperation) and Expertise France.
It targets young people committed to creating positive change in their communities through innovation, civic engagement, and sustainable development initiatives.
About the Program
The New Leaders Lab is a structured 3–4 month leadership development experience that combines:
- Interactive training modules
- Practical workshops
- One-on-one mentorship
- Peer learning sessions
- Community-based project development
Participants are supported to design and refine real-world solutions addressing social, economic, and environmental challenges across Africa.
Focus Areas
Participants are encouraged to develop initiatives related to:
- Climate action and environmental sustainability
- Entrepreneurship and innovation
- Rural and urban development
- Gender equality and social inclusion
- Youth empowerment
- Community development projects

Approximately 3–4 months

- Be a resident of one of the eligible countries, including:
Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Guinea, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritania, Mozambique, Niger, Uganda, DRC, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Togo, or Zambia
- Have basic communication skills in English, French, or Portuguese
- Demonstrate interest in community development, entrepreneurship, or civic engagement
- Be motivated to implement ideas that contribute to local or regional development
- No formal academic qualification is required. Students, job seekers, entrepreneurs, and community leaders are all encouraged to apply.
