FUNDED : Apply for the IGAD Digital Trade Training and Mentorship Program for Women and Youth Entrepreneurs
Entrepreneurs across the IGAD region have an opportunity to strengthen their digital business skills through a new training and mentorship initiative focused on gender-responsive digital trade. The program is being delivered by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) under the Horn of Africa Digital Market Integration (HDMI) Project – Phase I.
Running from July to December 2026, the initiative aims to equip women and youth-led micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) with the knowledge and practical tools needed to thrive in the growing digital economy.
About the Program
As digital technologies continue to transform trade and business across Africa, many entrepreneurs still face barriers to accessing digital markets, financial services, and e-commerce opportunities. Women-owned enterprises, in particular, often encounter additional challenges that limit their participation in digital trade.
To address these gaps, IGAD is launching a regional capacity-building program that combines practical training with ongoing mentorship. The initiative will use the Gender Action Learning System (GALS) methodology to support inclusive participation and business growth.
The program is designed to help participants take advantage of digital solutions, expand market access, and benefit from opportunities emerging through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Training Format
The learning program will be delivered through a blended approach consisting of:
- A three-day face-to-face training workshop in participants’ respective countries.
- Follow-up online learning and mentorship sessions hosted through IGAD's digital platforms.
- Continuous peer engagement and knowledge-sharing opportunities.
This structure is intended to provide hands-on learning while ensuring sustained support after the in-person sessions.
Training Locations
Workshops will be held in:
- Djibouti, Djibouti
- Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
- Nairobi, Kenya
- Mogadishu, Somalia
- Juba, South Sudan
- Port Sudan, Sudan
