Plan International believes that young people are the leaders of today, not tomorrow. The Youth Leadership Academy (YLA) is designed to empower young activists by providing them with global leadership and advocacy skills through training and mentorship.

Through the YLA’s various activities, discussions, and guest speakers, you will gain valuable skills to become a successful changemaker in your community. You will enhance your abilities in areas like advocacy, project management, networking, public speaking, and more.

The program will also expand your understanding of youth civic and political involvement, protection from violence, and health equity—topics that align with Plan’s global commitment to gender equality. Throughout the program, you will be supported in creating your own solution-driven leadership project focused on one of these key impact areas.

Program Overview

The program will begin in June, leading into a residential academy in July, where you will connect with peers, Plan staff, and Youth Advisory Board members who will lead workshops and activities. After the academy, you will start planning and executing your leadership project, receiving mentorship through monthly online check-ins with a YAB mentor.

Throughout the year, you’ll also have opportunities to engage in Plan-organized events such as International Day of the Girl Takeovers, webinars, and various campaigns.

At the conclusion of the program, you will have the chance to present your project at a symposium alongside other participants.
