FUNDED TO IVORY COAST : Apply for the Twelfth Conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa
The 12th conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa (CCDA-XII) has been scheduled for September 5-7, 2024, in Abidjan, Cote D'Ivoire. This is in cooperation with PACJA and other regional institutions.
The ClimDev-Africa partners, which include the African Union Commission, the Economic Commission for Africa, and the Africa Development Bank, have made this decision. The gathering will take place concurrently with the AMCEN special meeting.
The organisers of the 12th CCDA conference have organised a number of events in advance of the conference. These consist of
- Multi-stakeholder Consultative Forum on COP28 Reflections and 2024 Strategy in February.
- The Fifth Africa Climate Talks (ACT!) on “Climate change and development in Africa: a critical inquiry into third generation NDCs (NDC 3.0) and just transitions for Africa” in April.
- Workshop on Regulating carbon markets: building capacity for the Implementation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement in May.
- Participated in the 60th sessions of UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies in June.
One of ClimDev-Africa's premier events is the annual Climate Change and Development in Africa Conference (CCDA). It offers a platform for discussion of climate change issues with stakeholders, including policy officials, climate experts, civil society, women, and youth from all over the continent. The event is being conducted in honour of the reality that rural and urban populations whose livelihoods, health, and security are impacted by climate change are the end users of the work and the results of ClimDev-Africa.
Conversations about the operation of ClimDev-Africa have been undertaken with a range of stakeholders since the initial proposals presented in Addis Ababa in April 2006. The annual conference is held to make sure that connections with all pertinent stakeholders are maintained.
- Act as a forum for consultations around the operation of ClimDev-Africa;
- Provide opportunities to exchange information and learning in relation to the operation of ClimDev-Africa and similar or related activities;
- Build coherence of ClimDev-Africa with other activities; and,
- Enable stakeholders to make representations to the CDSC as required.
The application deadline is on rolling basis.
