Applications are now open for the Longview Digital Minds Career Transition Fellowships 2026, a funding opportunity designed to help individuals build careers focused on the consciousness, sentience, moral status, and welfare of artificial intelligence systems. The programme is supported by Longview Philanthropy and administered in partnership with Future Impact Group.

The fellowship is intended for individuals seeking to transition into research, policy, advocacy, or other high-impact work related to digital minds. Participants receive financial support, professional networking opportunities, and, where appropriate, access to computational resources to strengthen their work..

Eligible Activities

The fellowship can support a variety of career development activities, including:

• Graduate or postgraduate study related to digital minds.
• Postdoctoral research.
• Independent research and skills development.
• Career transition or exploration periods.
• Unpaid or low-paid internships at relevant organisations.
• Course buy-outs for academics.
• Bridging support between professional roles.
• Development of new organisations or independent projects with significant potential impact.

Selection Criteria

Applications will be evaluated based on:

• Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to issues surrounding AI consciousness, sentience, and welfare.
• Evidence of the applicant's ability to produce impactful work through academic, professional, or research achievements.
• A clear and well-developed fellowship plan, including future career goals and mentorship arrangements where applicable.

Priority may be given to applicants who require financial support to pursue this work or whose existing funding limits their ability to focus on digital minds research.
