Funding, coaching, and introductions to individuals who can assist you in growing will be provided. You will become a member of a community committed to leveraging technology to change the world through the Startup Accelerator.
What Makes the Fast Forward Accelerator Unique?
Capital: Fundraising strategies for tech nonprofits differ significantly from those of for-profit entities at every stage. The accelerator helps navigate the specific challenges and opportunities unique to tech nonprofits.
Content: The curriculum is tailored to the needs of tech nonprofits. While product development, hiring, and growth are important, tech nonprofits also need to focus on board development, governance, volunteer management, and other nonprofit-specific issues—areas where the accelerator's knowledge base is particularly strong.
Customer: Tech nonprofits prioritize impact over profit, often targeting the least profitable customers. This focus influences their go-to-market strategy and customer life cycle, which differs from that of for-profit businesses.
Cohort: Entrepreneurship can be isolating, especially in the tech nonprofit sector. Leaders in this space often feel out of place in both for-profit accelerators and nonprofit fellowships due to the unique intersection of their focus. The program offers a community of peers who share similar challenges, providing mutual support as they grow their organizations.
Community: The accelerator emphasizes building connections between the nonprofit and for-profit tech communities. Unlike for-profit accelerators, which don’t need to invest as heavily in community-building, the Fast Forward Accelerator focuses on collaborative philanthropy, fostering relationships that can have a significant impact on both the organizations involved and the broader world.
Selection Criteria
The Accelerator is exclusively designed for early-stage tech nonprofits, which resemble typical tech startups in that they build tech products but have chosen a nonprofit structure to focus on impact rather than profit.
Fast Forward's program is tailored to meet the unique challenges of tech nonprofits:
- Leadership: Tech nonprofits face the combined challenges of both tech startups and nonprofits. Leaders must possess a clear vision and exceptional determination.
- Lived Experience with Problems: They believe that people are best suited to solve problems they directly experience and aim to empower such individuals.
- Tech Talent: The organization's tech vision should be central, not a side project. To achieve this, tech expertise must be in a leadership position.
- Potential for Impact: They delve into an organization’s potential impact by asking key questions like: Who does the organization serve? If successful, how many lives will be positively affected? How profoundly will it impact those lives?
- Scalability: Given that software scales effectively, they support organizations with a vision for change that is as scalable as it is impactful.
- Alignment: As a small organization, Fast Forward carefully selects nonprofits that align with their strengths and are best positioned to scale with their support.
Don't miss out on the application deadline which is 09-Sep-2024.
