FUNDING :Mercy Corps Ventures is looking for Startups and Organizations with AI-based Solutions for Climate Resilience and Future Growth (Latin America ,Asia & Africa )

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) for climate resilience is the subject of a call for ideas being released by Mercy Corps Ventures. This programme looks for businesses or startups that are implementing cutting-edge AI-based solutions for climate resilience in developing nations.

After the Climate Tech Facility was established in November 2023 and got 412 ideas from more than 50 nations, this is our Climate Venture Lab's second call for proposals. Our goal is to create a body of knowledge about how cutting-edge technology can improve climate resilience for the most vulnerable. Through these initiatives, we are dedicating up to $1,000,000 to test novel solutions boosting the resilience of climate vulnerable people in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

For the people who are most at risk from the consequences of a changing climate, Mercy Corps Ventures is investing in the cutting edge of climate resilience solutions. We think that better weather forecasting, early warning systems, flood and wildfire prediction, and farming advise for better climate adaption may all be achieved with the use of modern climate analytics and artificial intelligence. Furthermore, AI's capacity to measure, forecast, and optimise complex systems has enormous potential to increase climate resilience and hasten the creation of scalable and sustainable solutions for the most vulnerable.

Adaptive Agriculture: Artificial Intelligence is being applied to improve precision farming, control pests and diseases, diagnose soil, and give smallholder farmers in emerging markets fast and localised weather information.
Inclusive fintech: AI algorithms can raise credit scores, make risk management better with tools for predicting the weather, and open up markets with AI-powered platforms that link farmers and consumers.
Climate-smart technologies: Artificial intelligence (AI) and climate analytics are used in supply chain optimisation, biosphere tracking and protection, and environmental monitoring of forests and wildlife.

In the request for applications of AI for Climate Resilience, we are looking for collaborators to test these applications of AI and climate analytics to address climate change in emerging markets, improve access to financing, and strengthen the sustainability and resilience of food and agriculture production. We seek remedies that will help underprivileged and low-income groups.

Consistent with our Resilient Futures Thesis, we will choose applications that combine AI with the following themes:

Artificial Intelligence has the potential to enhance soil diagnostics, expand regenerative agriculture, and decrease waste among smallholder farmers in developing nations. By making loans more accessible to smallholder farmers, it can also help finance climate resilience. AI can also assist with climate smart technologies, which include improving the use of renewable energy sources and safeguarding lands, seas, forests, and glaciers. These creative approaches seek to improve low-income communities', indigenous communities', and smallholder farmers' climate resilience.

We're going to have an informational meeting on July 10, 2024, at 8:00 am GMT -6, on AI for Climate Resilience.

Link - Register here before July 21, 2024, the deadline.

Don't miss out on the application deadline which is Jul 21, 2024.

Additional Information

Host Institution
Mercy Corps Ventures
Program Type
Fully Funded
Program Benefits
Up to $100,000 in equity-free subsidies will be awarded to the chosen pilot partners. MCV will offer funding in addition to mentoring, advice on effect measurement, partnership opportunities, knowledge sharing, and brand exposure.
Eligibility Criteria
Furthermore, in addition to the thesis alignment already mentioned, Mercy Corps Ventures (MCV) will choose pilots according to the subsequent standards:
Influence. What is the intended impact and for whom is the pilot working? We anticipate that suggestions would contain concrete strategies to show how they will affect the target populations of MCV, which include marginalised communities, smallholder farmers, refugees and migrants, underprivileged women, and those living in climate-vulnerable situations.
creativity. How much of a transformational fix is it? To what extent may this product or service be scaled up or replicated widely? Is this something unique?

Teamwork and traction. To what extent is this squad likely to perform as planned? Is the crew capable of completing the pilot successfully? This can be demonstrated by the product or service's technological maturity, team qualifications, track record, etc.
geographical range. Will one or more of the MCV target regions—Latin America, Africa, and South and Southeast Asia—see the pilot's implementation?
Flexibility. How does the economics work for for-profit solutions? If the pilot project proves successful, who will continue the work on for-profit and nonprofit solutions?
