The Pulitzer Center has opened applications for the Africa Climate and Environment (ACE) Microgrants 2026, an initiative supporting African local movements working at the intersection of climate action, governance, and environmental justice.

The programme is delivered through the Center’s Africa Outreach initiative and aims to strengthen community engagement around environmental accountability and transparency across the continent.

About the ACE Microgrants

The ACE Microgrants support innovative outreach projects that encourage communities and young professionals to participate in conversations about environmental governance and climate justice.

Selected initiatives will creatively build on reporting supported by the Pulitzer Center, translating journalism into community dialogue, public awareness, and civic action.

Projects are expected to amplify community voices while fostering collaboration among civil society, media actors, public institutions, businesses, and research organizations.

Focus Areas

Proposed projects may explore themes such as:

• Natural resource governance and accountability
• Environmental transparency and anti-corruption efforts
• Corporate and industrial environmental practices
• Biodiversity protection and ecosystem conservation
• Indigenous rights and environmental justice
• Climate impacts on communities and livelihoods

Types of Supported Activities

A wide range of outreach formats are encouraged, including:

• Public dialogues and conferences
• Exhibitions and storytelling events
• Community campaigns
• Workshops and training sessions
• Multimedia or creative engagement initiatives

All projects should connect with journalism or stories supported by the Pulitzer Center.
