GRANTS: Apply for the Smart Africa Challenge 2025 for African innovators

Applications are open for the Smart Africa Challenge 2025, a pan-African innovation competition that seeks to identify and support Africa’s most impactful innovators with scalable solutions that align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union’s Agenda 2063. This initiative offers young innovators across the continent the opportunity to gain visibility, secure funding, and access mentorship while competing for equity-free seed grants. Participants will also benefit from an all-expenses-paid trip to Nairobi for the grand finale, making it a unique platform to showcase ideas and connect with investors, corporates, and ecosystem leaders.

Program Benefits
Winners will receive up to USD 20,000 in equity-free seed funding, with tiered awards of $2,000, $5,000, $10,000 and $20,000 for top innovators. Beyond financial support, participants will gain access to mentorship, accelerator and fellowship opportunities, global visibility, and connections with investors and partners. Finalists will also enjoy fully funded travel to Nairobi for the grand finale.
Eligibility Criteria
The challenge is open to African citizens or residents aged 18–44 years, including startups, SMEs, student innovators, and grassroots organizations. Applicants must have a solution that addresses Africa’s pressing challenges in sectors such as agriculture, health, climate and clean energy, education, water and sanitation, fintech, gender equality, smart cities, or peace and strong institutions.
