Grants EUR 200,000 —1,000,000 : EEP Africa Call for Proposals – Grant Financing for Clean Energy Projects in Southern and Eastern Africa Submit now
EEP Africa is currently accepting proposals for early-stage clean energy projects in Southern and Eastern Africa. Companies, start-ups, and social enterprises with innovative clean energy solutions are invited to apply for risk-tolerant grant financing to support their initiatives.
EEP Africa offers funding for feasibility studies, pilot projects, and scale-up efforts, along with technical support, investment facilitation, and knowledge sharing. The call is open to projects focusing on renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, hydro, and energy efficiency.
Project Focus: EEP Africa supports projects that:
- Are innovative and in active development.
- Address a clear need for EEP Africa financing.
- Demonstrate a pathway to profitability with the potential for further investment and sustainable commercialization.
- Fall under one or more of the following categories: residential electricity access, productive uses of energy (commercial/institutional), mini grids, power generation, clean cooking, mobility (electric/fuels), and energy efficiency
Application Process: The application is a two-stage process:
- Expression of Interest (EoI): Submit an initial application.
- Full Proposal: Shortlisted applicants will be invited for pitch sessions and then asked to submit a detailed full proposal.

Grants and repayable grants ranging from EUR 200,000 to EUR 1,000,000.
A minimum required co-financing of 30-50% of the total project budget.
Funding over EUR 500,000 and for feasibility studies is automatically repayable.
Private companies, start-ups, and social enterprises from any country are eligible to apply, provided the project is based in one or more of the target countries: Botswana, Burundi, Comoros, Eswatini, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Applicants must have a strong local presence in the country/countries of application (either be locally based or have strong local partnerships).
Only registered legal entities with at least six months of operation prior to the opening of the Expression of Interest (EoI) are eligible.
EEP Africa does not fund NGOs, Charities, Research Institutions, or government institutions, though these can serve as project partners.
