GRANTS OF €10,000–€12,000 : Apply for the Biodiversity Media Grants 2026 for Low- and Middle-Income Countries

Applications are open for the diversity Media Grants 2026 for Low- and Middle-Income Countries. Earth Journalism Network (EJN)  under its Biodiversity Media Initiative, is offering grants of €10,000–€12,000 to selected media organizations in low- and middle-income countries. The initiative aims to strengthen the depth, quality and reach of reporting on biodiversity threats and conservation solutions.

The grants are open to journalist networks, media outlets, civil society organizations and academic institutions, with preference given to professional journalism organizations and journalism schools. Projects rooted in advocacy or political campaigning will not be considered.

Purpose of the Grants

Recent global assessments have highlighted a significant imbalance between financing activities that harm biodiversity and those that protect it. Despite the urgency of biodiversity loss, coverage in mainstream media remains limited. This funding opportunity seeks to address that gap by:

  • Expanding in-depth and investigative reporting on biodiversity and conservation

  • Supporting collaborative, transboundary and data-driven journalism projects

  • Building the capacity of journalists through workshops, field reporting and training initiatives

  • Creating new storytelling platforms, tools and networks focused on environmental reporting

Applications proposing content production alone must include a minimum of 10 substantial stories unless combined with strong capacity-building components.

Priority Themes

Proposals are particularly encouraged in areas such as:

  • Other effective area-based conservation measures (OECMs) supporting global biodiversity targets

  • Business impacts and dependencies on nature

  • Nature-based solutions linked to climate, food security and livelihoods

  • Biodiversity and public health linkages

  • Collaborative conservation approaches

  • Unintended impacts of conservation interventions

Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed by a panel of environmental journalism experts and Internews staff. Proposals will be assessed on quality, innovation, impact potential, financial viability and organizational capacity.

Published outputs supported under the grant must acknowledge support from EJN.

Don't miss out on the application deadline which is application deadline by March 28 2026.
