CAN Africa is a network of organizations and individuals dedicated to advancing climate action and sustainable development across the African continent. Membership is open to those whose values align with our principles of transparency, accountability, non-partisanship, and inclusivity. The following are the key criteria for joining CAN Africa:

Eligibility Requirements

1. Organizational Type:
   • Must be a non-profit organization, community-based organization, faith-based organization, or non-governmental organization (NGO).
   • Should not represent government or industry interests.
   • Must be actively involved in promoting climate action and sustainable development.
2. Geographical Scope:
   • Must be based in Africa or primarily operate within the continent.
   • Regional or continental organizations are also eligible to apply.
   • In countries without a functional national node, applications may be submitted directly to CAN Africa.
3. Alignment with CAN Africa’s Principles:
   • Must commit to non-partisanship, transparency, accountability, and gender balance.
   • Should support CAN Africa’s goals, including climate advocacy, sustainable development, and capacity-building.
4. Legal and Operational Status:
   • Must be legally constituted and, if applicable, registered according to the laws of the country of operation.
   • Individuals (e.g., diaspora members) must show a willingness to contribute financially or technically to CAN Africa’s mission.
5. Engagement Commitment:
   • Must actively participate in CAN Africa activities, including information sharing, capacity-building, and advocacy efforts.
   • Must adhere to CAN Africa’s Code of Conduct and guiding principles.
