Applications are open for the Pan-African Debate Competition, hosted by the Ajowa Initiative in partnership with the African Young Leaders Foundation (AYLF).

This annual event serves as a dynamic platform for empowering young leaders involved in impactful community initiatives or research centered on Africa’s youth. Bringing together emerging voices from across the continent, the competition fosters dialogue on pressing challenges facing Africa while promoting unity, collaboration, and critical thinking.

Rooted in the values of Pan-Africanism, the competition promotes unity, solidarity, and shared progress among people of African descent. It seeks to cultivate collaboration, analytical thinking, and solution-oriented dialogue among young African leaders. Participants will engage in discussions covering key themes such as economic integration, political cooperation, social justice, cultural exchange, and other pressing issues shaping Africa’s future.

The initiative aims to deepen understanding of the continent’s opportunities and challenges, while inspiring a new generation of Pan-Africanists committed to building a peaceful, prosperous, and united Africa. Contestants will sharpen their skills in research, public speaking, and teamwork through constructive debate.

Judging Criteria

• Content – relevance, depth, and coherence of arguments (40%).

• Delivery – clarity, confidence, and presentation skills (30%).

• Rebuttal – effectiveness in countering opposing points (20%).

• Overall Impression – persuasiveness, impact, and leadership potential (10%).
