The UN Women AI School, an innovative learning program created to give gender equality advocates the information and skills they need to use AI for social change, advocacy, and organisational transformation, is proudly launched by the UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific.

The goal of the UN Women AI School is to close the knowledge gap in AI and enable participants to apply AI for decision-making, advocacy, and campaign strategy.

Program Overview

The AI School offers an in-depth online course designed to teach various aspects of AI, including its applications in development, ethics, and advocacy. The program includes:

  • Foundations of AI and Machine Learning: Learn how AI can influence and shape the development sector.
  • Ethical AI: Discover methods to reduce bias and promote fairness in AI technology.
  • AI for Advocacy & Campaigns: Explore how AI can enhance digital mobilization, storytelling, and campaign efforts.
  • AI-Enhanced Productivity: Examine tools that utilize AI to optimize workflows and boost efficiency.
  • Custom GPT Solutions: Learn to design AI applications aimed at advancing gender equality.

Participants will take part in pre-course readings, assignments after each session, and a final project to gain hands-on experience in applying AI technologies. The program combines interactive sessions, practical exercises, and real-life scenarios to equip participants with the necessary skills to incorporate AI into their respective fields, whether in civil society, youth movements, academia, government, or media.

Eligibility Criteria
The program invites professionals who have a demonstrated history in gender equality activism, innovation, or advocacy. They particularly encourage applications from young people (ages 18-30), individuals with disabilities, those from rural regions, and other underrepresented groups, aiming to ensure diverse perspectives influence the future of AI in gender equality. Eligible applicants include:

- Feminist leaders and human rights advocates
- Climate justice campaigners
- Inventors, scientists, and entrepreneurs
- Academics and media experts leading gender-inclusive AI conversations
- AI and tech professionals
- Gender equality experts working in government, international development, or UN agencies
Eligible Countries
Applicants must be nationals from countries within the UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, or nationals of a Member State within the office’s area of responsibility. These countries include: Afghanistan, Australia, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kiribati, Lao PDR, Maldives, Myanmar, Mongolia, Nauru, Nepal, New Zealand, Niue, Pakistan, Palau, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Republic of Korea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Viet Nam.
