2025 African World Heritage Fund (AWHF) Internship Programme Announcement

The African World Heritage Fund (AWHF) is inviting applications for its 2025 Internship Programme, targeting young professionals passionate about cultural and natural heritage conservation. Established in 2006 through a partnership between UNESCO and the African Union, the AWHF works to address challenges African countries face in implementing the 1972 World Heritage Convention. The Fund focuses on increasing the representation of African sites on the World Heritage List and enhancing their sustainable conservation.

This remote internship is open to individuals from Africa and the African Diaspora. It runs for six months and includes a stipend. The position centers on communications and partnerships, providing a creative platform for honing skills in social media, content development, and outreach while contributing to the protection and celebration of Africa’s diverse heritage.

Key Areas of Contribution

Social Media Expertise

•Proficiency in platforms like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X.

•Crafting platform-specific, engaging content to foster community interaction.

Content Development

•Strong writing and storytelling capabilities for impactful posts and articles.

•Familiarity with design tools (e.g., Canva, Photoshop, or similar software).

Web Management

•Experience with CMS platforms such as WordPress.

•Knowledge of SEO strategies and techniques.

•Ability to enhance website usability and optimize online visibility.

Media Editing

•Competence in editing and enhancing photos.

•Skilled in video-editing tools like Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.

Effective Communication

•Fluency in English or French; knowledge of additional African Union languages is an advantage.

•Ability to convey ideas clearly to a range of audiences.

Research and Analysis

•Strong research skills in heritage preservation and conservation topics.

•Ability to use social media analytics tools and interpret engagement data to shape strategies.

Teamwork and Organization

•Collaborative mindset to contribute to team projects.

•Time management skills to balance and prioritize tasks efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Current or recently graduated students in fields like Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or Heritage/Environmental Studies are encouraged to apply.

Experience: Prior exposure to social media management, marketing, or content creation (including internships or volunteering) is a bonus.
