REMOTE INTERNSHIP :  United Nations Conference on Trade and Development is looking for interns (Students and Recent Graduates)

The position is with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The internship is unpaid and full-time, requiring interns to work five days per week (40 hours). It is a remote position located within the Least Developed Countries Section (LDCS) of the Policy Analysis and Research Branch (PARB), under the Division for Africa, Least Developed Countries, and Special Programmes (ALDC). The internship is expected to start on November 4, 2024, for an initial three-month period, with the possibility of extension up to six months based on departmental needs.

Economic Affairs Intern (remote internship)

Responsibilities:
Interns will receive training and mentoring throughout their placement. Working under the supervision of the Section Chief, the intern will support the development of the *Least Developed Countries Report 2025* and Vulnerability Profiles of pre-graduating LDCs by performing the following tasks:

- Assist in compiling databases and using statistical tools for data processing and computations,
- Prepare data visualization products,
- Conduct online research and compile literature reviews,
- Assist in drafting documents such as reports, policy briefs, and speeches,
- Attend and summarize conferences and meetings,
- Help prepare project documents and training materials,
- Contribute to developing PowerPoint presentations and infographics.

This position is fully remote, and applicants must have access to a computer with a modern browser capable of running the latest version of Office 365. The computer must also meet basic IT security requirements. Applicants are expected to:

- Have the latest version of the Microsoft Windows operating system installed, with regular updates,
- Enable the built-in software firewall,
- Use a password manager to create strong passwords and secure access to UNCTAD/UN-related resources.

General Intern Responsibilities:
1. Adhere to all applicable UN rules, regulations, and procedures, as outlined in the UN Internship Programme Administrative Instructions ST/AI/2000/9 & ST/AI/2005/11.
2. Submit copies of all materials created during the internship to the receiving department, with the UN retaining property rights, including patents, copyrights, and trademarks, for any materials developed during the internship. Interns will assist in securing and transferring these rights to the UN when requested.
3. Respect the impartiality and independence of the UN and receiving department. Interns must not seek or accept instructions from external entities or governments regarding their work.
4. Unless explicitly authorized, interns may not share information gained through the internship with external parties, including the media or other institutions. Information must not be used for personal gain, and this restriction continues after the internship ends.
5. Refrain from any behavior that could harm the reputation of the UN or its departments, and avoid any activities that conflict with the mission and objectives of the UN.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must fulfill one of the following criteria: (a) Be currently enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate program (second university degree or higher); or (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level). Additionally, interns should:

- Be proficient in standard software applications;
- Show a strong interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to its principles;
- Demonstrate the ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, showing openness and tolerance towards differing opinions and views.

For this position, the degree must be in economics, statistics, data science, or a related field.

No prior work experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your education, training, or skills should align with the needs of the United Nations during your internship. While no professional experience is necessary, your field of study must closely relate to the specific internship you are applying for. Applicants must be either students in the final year of their bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. program or have completed one of these degrees.
