Calling Young Changemakers: Apply for the 3rd Youth Leadership and Innovation Award!

Aspiring innovators and leaders passionate about migration and development now have an exciting opportunity to showcase their initiatives. In partnership with the Migration Youth Forum, the 3rd Youth Leadership and Innovation Award for Migration is open for submissions. This platform is designed for young changemakers who are actively working to uplift and support migrant communities through impactful solutions.

The award recognizes and amplifies youth-led initiatives that strive to enhance the lives of young people on the move. Finalists will gain invaluable support, including mentorship, seed funding to further develop their initiatives, and the chance to participate in the prestigious Youth Forum while engaging in the GFMD process. This opportunity welcomes young entrepreneurs, leaders, and organizations committed to driving positive change.

This year’s themes focus on key aspects of migration and innovation. The first category highlights initiatives that empower vulnerable groups such as women, children, youth, and people with disabilities, ensuring their inclusion in migration processes and strengthening their role in global migration and development. Another category celebrates projects that harness the power of media, culture, and digital storytelling to reshape the public narrative surrounding migration. Additionally, a third category invites innovative solutions that use technology to promote safe and sustainable migration pathways while expanding access to economic opportunities.

Interested applicants must meet the eligibility criteria outlined by the Migration Youth Forum. All selected finalists will take part in youth-focused activities at the GFMD Summit. It is important to note that those who apply for the award do not need to submit a separate application for the Migration Youth Forum. However, applicants who are not selected as finalists may still have the chance to participate in the forum if chosen.

Eligible participants should be between 18 and 30 years old at the time of the Youth Forum and GFMD Summit, without exception. As the event will include interactive discussions and capacity-building workshops, applicants must have at least an intermediate understanding of English to engage effectively. Those selected should be fully committed to participating in all sessions from June 9-13, 2025, as well as any necessary preparation and follow-up activities. Applications must be completed and submitted online by April 20, 2025, at 23:59 CET. Submissions will be accepted in either English or Spanish.

Applicants should also be prepared to travel to Colombia, ensuring they have valid passports or required travel documents, along with the ability to secure a visa if necessary. Special encouragement is given to young people from Colombia, Latin America, and migrant communities, particularly those from underrepresented or marginalized backgrounds.
