The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Solve is looking for innovative solutions that use technology to tackle various facets of the climate crisis.
Objectives
- Promote a transition to a low-carbon, nutritious global food system, involving both large and small producers, as well as supply chains.
- Develop zero-carbon and resilient cities, including improving the construction or retrofitting of multi-family and commercial buildings, supporting non-car transportation, and addressing extreme weather events.
- Accelerate the deployment of distributed renewable energy and adaptive measures, such as community-scale solar, ecosystem restoration, and cooling/dehumidification solutions.
- Enhance a low-carbon blue economy, including sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, the marine industry, and ecosystem conservation.
Categories
- MIT Solve – Solver Award: All teams chosen for Solve’s Global Challenges and the Indigenous Communities Fellowship will receive a grant funded by Solve.
- The Seeding The Future Food Systems Prize: This prize is open to high-impact innovations aimed at transforming food systems to become more sustainable, ensuring equitable access to safe, nutritious, affordable, and trusted food.
- The E Ink Innovation Prize: This prize is open to solutions that currently use or plan to use ePaper materials, technology, or displays to address global challenges in any of Solve’s focus areas, including architecture, education, or intercultural understanding.
- The AI for Humanity Prize: This prize is for solutions that apply data science, artificial intelligence, or machine learning to benefit humanity.
- The GM Prize: This prize is open to solutions that contribute to creating smart, safe, and sustainable communities globally.
- The Citizens Workforce Innovation Prize: This prize seeks to fast-track the development of solutions that prepare individuals for today’s job market and the future workforce, foster new ways of working, and drive economic growth within communities.
- The Crescent Enterprises ‘AI for Social Innovation’ Prize: This prize supports innovative solutions using data science, AI, and machine learning to address critical global social issues.

Over the course of nine months, chosen Solver teams should anticipate dedicating 25 hours to the program, which includes coaching sessions, workshops, virtual events, and more. Additionally, Solve Challenge Finals in New York City (September) and Solve at MIT in Cambridge (May) typically draw four-day attendance.
