Concerning IUCN Leaders Forum

The IUCN Leaders Forum brings together young leaders and global change agents annually to talk about creative solutions to pressing issues, make audacious promises, form alliances, and take practical steps towards significant changes in sustainability and environment conservation.

Developing economies and communities that are good to the environment was the focus of the inaugural IUCN Leaders Forum, which took place in Jeju Province, Republic of Korea, from October 13–15, 2022. In attendance were more than five hundred leaders and agents of change from the public and private sectors, international organisations, Indigenous and youth-led organisations, and national and subnational governments.

The IUCN Leaders Forum, in its third edition, is slated to take place online and in Geneva, Switzerland, from October 8–10, 2024, with the topic "Utilising innovation to facilitate conservation."

The 2024 IUCN Leaders Forum will provide an opportune forum for showcasing creative solutions addressing the triple planetary issue, ahead of the three Rio Convention COPs scheduled for the end of the year. The forum will centre on integrating nature into energy systems, food and agriculture, and human health. The event will evaluate developments in transparency and accountability tools, regulatory frameworks, reporting rules, and monitoring methodologies, building on past editions. The Forum will also explore novel financing strategies targeted at accelerating change, such as increasing private sector investment, utilising private philanthropy, reallocating subsidies, and coordinating funding for climate and biodiversity with international goals—possibly via the use of soon-to-be-developed tools like biodiversity credits.

The 2024 IUCN Leaders Forum seeks to bring together powerful leaders to advance international environmental policy while fostering communication, fostering a sense of trust, and identifying cooperative solutions to conservation and biodiversity challenges. In addition, it will give international leaders a forum to talk about environmental concerns and give young activists a way to network and promote their ideas.

You must complete the online application by May 28, 2024, in order to be considered.
